Strategy

To build on its technological strength and high quality databases, AND made the strategic decision to develop the company into an electronic publishing business. In order to achieve this, AND is targeting fast-growing markets for electronic publications in the travel, reference and educational software sectors, in both off- and on-line formats.

As part of this strategy, the company is focusing on:

  • acquisition and development of intellectual property to consolidate its technological leadership and position as an owner of data in relevant areas;
  • expanding its presence in international markets (also through partnerships);
  • strengthening its marketing organisation to maximise sales of its own titles.

AND has structured its business in three sectors:

  • Data, which develops and maintains databases
  • Technology, which develops electronic products
  • Publishing, which publishes and markets electronic titles

Every business unit within AND has a business plan contributing to the group's overall objectives. However, every unit is independent and is responsible for its own profitability. Business with other units is conducted on the same commercial basis as with outside organisations. Co-operation between the units is only promoted when it produces added value for all parties involved.


Publishing Model This publishing model illustrates the fields in which AND is active. AND continues to focus on expanding its position in publishing technology as well as increasing the number of titles issued. Strong emphasis will be placed on expanding AND's position in databases, providing this data and technology to IT markets worldwide as well as to third parties who are interested in using AND's assets to create their own value-added products in either off-line, on-line or paper-based formats.
